Mary Miller

Saturday, December 30th, 2023

Mary Louise (Skiles) Miller, 83, a former, longtime Sedro-Woolley resident, passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2023, in Lake Havasu City, Arizona.

Mary was born on February 17, 1940 in Kirksville, Missouri, the daughter of Harold & Gladys (Bear) Skiles. She was raised in Green Castle, Missouri, and lived there with her family, where she was surrounded by her extended family of grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. The family moved to Sedro-Woolley, Washington in 1954, when Mary was 14.

In Sedro-Woolley, Mary attended Sedro-Woolley High School. Mary was an excellent student in school. She was a skilled typist.

At S-WHS, she met Gordon Earl McIntyre, and in 1958, they married a few months after high school graduation. They had two children, Lori Renee and Scott Erin McIntyre.

In her early adult life, Mary worked for Northern State Hospital as a stenographer. In her later adult life, she worked as a typesetter for the Skagit Valley Herald in Mt. Vernon and as a medical transcriptionist for United General Hospital in Sedro-Woolley.

In 1999, Mary married Wayne Eugene Miller of Mt. Vernon, Washington. In 2001, they moved to Utah. They lived in various cities: Willard, Payson, American Fork, and Springville, until Wayne passed away in 2021. Mary then spent time living with both her daughter in Utah and her son in Arizona.

Mary enjoyed traveling, listening to country music, shopping, doing crossword puzzles, decorating her home, keeping in touch with her family, and preparing tasty, home-cooked meals. She relished sipping her coffee each morning. In her later years, she loved watching sunsets over Lake Havasu.

Because she had some chronic health problems that were often passed over by mainstream doctors, Mary distrusted them and spent much effort seeking alternative health care methods and healthy eating habits.

She liked to dress up, and she always looked stylish. Mary loved movies, and she especially enjoyed mysteries in her later years. She had a good sense of humor, and even joked some with the hospital staff during her last few days in the hospital.

She is survived by her children,  daughter, Lori Smith and her husband George of Mona, Utah; son, Scott McIntyre and his wife Kay of Lake Havasu City, Arizona; four grandchildren, Joel Smith and his wife Brittany of Payson, Utah, Nathaniel Smith of Portland, Oregon, Erin McIntyre and Scott McIntyre, both of Lake Havasu City, Arizona; two great-granddaughters, Rosalina Smith of Potlach, Idaho, and Tanina Smith of Payson, Utah; a brother, Darrell Skiles and his wife Sherilyn of Mt. Vernon, Washington; several nieces,  nephews, and cousins.

Graveside services will be held at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at 12:00 PM under the direction of the family assisted by Lemley Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to a charity of your choice in Mary’s memory. Share memories of Mary and sign the online guest register.
