Mattie Lee Mills, 80, of Birdsview, Washington, passed away April 1, 2022, in Mount Vernon, WA.  She was born November 2, 1941, in Franklin County, North Carolina to Charles C. and Kister (Russel) Conner.  Mattie was born a twin to her sister Hattie.  Mattie, along with her twin sister, were the youngest of 10 children.

She attended Glenville High School where she played sports such as basketball, softball and volleyball.  Mattie worked at Buster Brown sewing plant in North Carolina with her sister, Hattie.  On June 1, 1958, Mattie married Grady Wilburn Mills at Trout Creek, NC.  They moved to Washington State.  Mattie worked as a Taxidermist and then landing a job at Boeing as a machinist and eventually becoming a lead in her area.  Mattie drove a 15-passenger van pool for Boeing employees for many years.  She worked for Boeing for 25 years before retiring along with her twin sister, Hattie.  Mattie and Grady lived their lives in Puyallup, Auburn, Mukilteo and eventually making their home in Birdsview.

Mattie enjoyed hobbies as quilting with the girls at the senior center in Concrete, WA, joining the Red Hatters Club, needle point, crocheting and cooking.  Mattie enjoyed going to church at the Wildwood Chapel here in Birdsview.  She had a very strong faith and loved the Lord very much.

Mattie is survived by her daughters, Brenda Gillock of Birdsview, Katy Mills and Henry Robledo of Montana, and Nelda Mills and John Joe of Concrete; grandchildren, Sarah and Heather Gillock of Birdsview, Cody Mills of Mount Vernon, Katy Hammontree of Marysville and Kimberly Davis of Texas; great grandchildren, Robert Gillock III of Bellingham, WA, Kendra Jean Gillock of Birdsview, Kylee, Ayssa and Sarah Hammontree, of Marysville, WA and  Christopher, Matthew, Brady and Brennan, and Korbin of Texas.  Mattie is also survived by her twin sister, best friend and partner in crime, Hattie Buchanan and daughter Barbara Harrell of Birdsview; numerous nieces and nephews.

Mattie was preceded in death by her parents; the love of her life, husband, Grady W. Mills; daughter, Donna Lynn Mills; son-in-law, Robert (Eddie) Gillock; grandsons, Eric Mills and Robert Gillock, Jr.; great-grandson, Brock, siblings, Ruth Stewart, Frank Conner, Raymond Carl Conner, John Earl Jr, Caroline Pressley, Alvine R. Conner; numerous nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00, Monday, April 11, 2022, at Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley, followed by a Committal Service at Hamilton Cemetery, then a Pot Luck reception at Mattie’s home in Birdsview, 39393 Cape Horn Road.  A time of visitation will be available from 9:00 to 5:00, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at Lemley Chapel.  Share your memories of Mattie and sign the online guest register.
