Mildred M. “Millie” Hedden, 89, a longtime resident of Sedro-Woolley, passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2011 at the Manor House Adult Family Home surrounded by her loving family.

Millie was born May 1, 1922, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, to Earl and Myrtle (Carey) Kohn.  She married Lawrence N. Hedden, on January 24, 1944, in Baltimore, Maryland.  Millie worked in nursing at Northern State Hospital for 18 ½ years, retiring in 1968.  She was a crafter, sewer, card and game player, especially enjoying playing with her grandchildren.  She and Lawrence enjoyed traveling, spending a few winters in Arizona.  They were members of the Skagit Valley Riding Club and the Sedro-Woolley Senior Center.  Millie was known as “Duchess Millie Vanilli” with the Red Hat Ladies, and was a member of the Mermaids as well.

Millie is survived by her daughters, Carole, and her husband, Ron Harwood, of Clear Lake, and Janis, and her husband, Jerry Snowden, of Camano Island; 5 grandchildren, Shawna, and her husband, Kim McNeil, Heidi Hamilton, and her companion, Shawn Meyer, Amy Harwood, Leslie Harwood, and Dean, and his wife, Leslie Harwood; 9 great grandchildren, Tiffany, Karri, Braelyn, Taylen, Hanna, Tanner, Devin, Kaylee and Lauren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Gus Kohn, and husband, Lawrence.

A time of visitation is available on Wednesday and Thursday, September 7 and 8, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, at Lemley Chapel, and Friday, from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM.  A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, September 9, 2011, at Union Cemetery, Sedro-Woolley, with Pastor Jim Cannon presiding.  A reception will follow the graveside service at the Sedro-Wooley Eagles from 1:30 to 3:30.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society.
