Per “Atle” Bjordal, of Burlington, Washington, passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2023, of natural causes.  Atle was born on March 4, 1932, in Askim, Norway to Olaf and Gudrun Bjordal.

Atle led a rich and fulfilling life, marked by his dedication to his career, his love for his wife Carol, and his passion for exploration and learning.  His immigration journey from Norway to the United States in 1968, followed by his successful career as a mechanical engineer working for companies like Volvo, Boeing, Bendix Skagit, and Anvil Corporation, showcases his hard work and determination.

The shared experiences of boating, traveling, and building homes with Carol reflect a life well-lived, filled with cherished moments and adventures.  His commitment to his family as a devoted husband and caregiver speaks volumes about his character and the love, he had for those close to him.

Atle’s inquisitive nature, sense of humor, and storytelling will surely be remembered fondly by those who knew him, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, laughter, and care.  He will be greatly missed but remembered with love and admiration for the impact he had on his family and community.

Atle is survived by daughters, Peggy (Wayne) Jones of Kenai, Alaska, Debbie (Scott) Hamilton of Burlington; sister, Frødis Gudveig Ruud of Norway; several nieces, nephews, and cousins all of Norway; grandchildren, Breezy Itero, Sean Jones, Krystal Jones, Stephan (Liz) Embree) Jones, Emmie Hamilton and Fiona Wolfe-Jones; several great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Bjordal; parents, Olaf and Gudrun Bjordal; brother, Thormund Alfred Bjordal; grandson, Jason Buck.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Dementia Society of America or Hospice of the Northwest.

The family would like to thank Ramona Stone for her amazing in-home care for nearly 3 years.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 28, 2024, at the Heritage Flight Museum located at 15053 Crosswind Drive, Burlington, WA.  Atle will be laid to rest at Fir Conway Cemetery.  Share your memories of Atle and sign the online guest register.

Sending condolences to the family of a cousin I never met. I have fond memories of meeting his parents, Olaf and Gudrun during their visit to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan in the mid-1970s. Rest in peace, Atle.
