Peter Louis Voolich

Peter Louis Voolich

Saturday, October 14th, 2023

Peter Voolich, age 68, passed away October 14, 2023, in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Bellingham, Washington surrounded by many of his friends and family.  Peter was born June 28, 1955, to Samuel and Donna (Bozanich) Voolich in Doctor’s Hospital, Seattle, WA.  On June 29, 2023, he was diagnosed with lung cancer, and metastasized into brain cancer, leading to his death.

Peter attended North Queen Anne School for Kindergarten, St. Margaret’s Elementary School and Seattle Preparatory School, class of 1973.  A few years after high school, he went to Shoreline College and received a degree in Business Administration.  Peter had many friends, some of them he attended school with from kindergarten through high school, and many more were friends from kindergarten through elementary school.  These friends were still his friends who came to visit him in the hospital.

In Peter’s lifetime he did many things.  Tennis was the sport he loved.  He played on the Seattle Prep varsity tennis team for four years and continued to play both competitively and recreationally for a number of years.  He also enjoyed playing golf with his friends and his wife.  His favorite golf tournament was the annual Seattle Prep Alumni Tournament.  He loved all sports, and his special teams were the Seattle Seahawks and the Seattle Mariners.

In July of 2000, he married Marcella Schloemer in Hawaii, and they had gone back often to Oahu.

He worked as a rigger for Todd’s Shipyards, and for Lockheed.  He worked for them in Seattle, Hawaii, and California.  He commercially fished for many years with his uncles.  He loved being on the water.  But Peter’s job, that turned out to be career – was when he purchased “Neighborhood Gutters.”  He continued to grow the company until his death.  He loved working with people and built the reputation as an “excellent gutter installation company.”  He also was proficient in the building industry, but really only used that trade to help friends and family.  At the time of his death, he was getting ready to retire, never getting to see that day.

Peter is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Marcella; two step sons, Bjorn Thompson of Billings, Montana and Daric and wife, Laci Thompson of Puyallup, WA; two step-granddaughters, Kylee and Brooke; sister, Sandra ‘Sandy’ and husband, Mark Magnussen of Olympia, WA; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Peter was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Mikol.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30, Sunday, November 12, 2023, Our Lady of Montserrat Chapel, Seattle Preparatory School, 2400 11th Ave. E, Seattle, WA  98102.

My Peter Everything happened so fast. Life has been so hard. I miss our phone calls. You were such a kind and loving husband. Generous to everyone. You will be so missed. My heart is breaking.

Grade school was our introduction. Pete was a class clown and kept life at St Margaret’s a ton of fun. Well, at least when we weren’t getting the back of our hands spanked with a ruler!
Played on many sport teams with Pete and he was a key player in all of them. Athletically gifted and smart on the pitch and court. Fortunate to have stayed in touch for all those years since. Rest peacefully my ole friend.

  • Mary K Koon

Marcella, it was always good to see you and Pete at the Cawdrey’s. It was such a fun coincidence to learn from Pete that we both had common roots in Anacortes. Both Pete’s dad and my mom. Take care
    Mary K Rauen Koon.

I deeply admired Pete’s character and humor, and I’ll always remember him.

  • Super Joe

An old shipyard workmate posted of your passing on the Todd page. Rememberances are starting to collect. Godspeed brother and rest easy, we’ll take it from here. Say hello to everyone and let them know we won’t be long.

  • Mark Mead

Like Jim said, too many memories to list here. Some of our times together were just a little bit lacking in common sense but all of them memorable and usually a ton of fun. From our early teenage years until now we shared many interests and experiences and I’m so grateful we were able to spend time together the last couple years, much of it recalling our deeds and misdeeds from years gone by, always accompanied by lots of laughter. You will be missed, never forgotten and my life is better due to your friendship. Rest In Peace old friend!

  • Jim Glascock

The memories are too numerous to tell. Going to miss you brother. Say hi to our brother Jon. There are a lot of us that will be missing those phone calls with you.

    Love, your brother

  • Rev. Gregg D. Wood, S.J.

I give great thanks for the years that I knew you, Peter. That our lives crossed paths was no accident. That was a gift of the Lord to both of us. Quyana caqnek (Thank you, very much).

  • Pete Cannon

Hey Peter, you were just a stud on the tennis courts. You, McEnroe and Conners had the same approach to the game, you guys just exhausted the competition, and some days the spectators as well. Yes, you did it Peter’s way. We knew you were talented, however many of us were amazed at the stories of how resourceful you were fixing everything but the cars around the house for friends and especially family. Miss you buddy.
