Thursday, October 26th, 2023

Rick Soren, 76 of Sedro Woolley got called home to be with Jesus on October 26th, 2023, with family by his side. He was born on July 4th, 1947 in Sedro Woolley Washington to his parents Ray Soren & Virginia Tesch.

He attended church with his mom and siblings growing up and took his children with them at times through the early years of their lives. They would often go blueberry picking and fishing adventures the rest of the day. He grew up in Mount Vernon and Oak Harbor with his sisters Rachel, Cathy & Eileen. He graduated from Mount Vernon High-School alongside his sister Rachel.

Rick had three children Nancy, Rich and Danielle and five grandchildren. He made sure his son Rich knew how to fish and hike, they had many fun adventures together that are cherished. He often visited and spent time with friends and family. He was always willing to share a helping hand when people were in need. While Rick and his wife Sharon lived in Lyman, they fostered many kids through the years. To know Rick is to love him with his one-of-a-kind personality, always smiling and had the ability to make anyone laugh.

He was a hard worker, he knew he had to work and provide for his family and that is what he did. He worked on many dairy farms milking cows from Snohomish & Skagit counties in the 60’s and early 70’s. He worked as a welder at Skagit River Steel in Sedro Woolley then had more than a 30 year career of being a log truck unloader at Goodyear Nelson Hardwood Lumber Mill also in Sedro Woolley until he retired in 2004. He was also a volunteer fireman in Day Creek in the 1980’s. He was good friends with many of the people he worked with.

Rick was adventurous, and not much stopped him from having fun or trying something new. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and hiking with his Son Rich, Uncle Dan, his cousin Doug and many others through the years. He also enjoyed riding his bike, going on long walks, working on puzzles, watching action movies and old westerns, cooking and baking. He had a garden most of his life, in the later years he had hanging baskets that brightened his days. He loved life.

His daughter Danielle had the honor of caring for him in the later years of his life after his wife Sharon passed away. He spent time with her and her husband Darrel. He began attending Sonrise Church with them a few months before he passed away. “We truly believes that God was preparing us for the days ahead and are forever grateful for all of our time together. We love and miss you every day Dad”

Rick leaves behind his children Nancy, Rich and Danielle and her husband Darrel, four grandchildren, Sisters Rachel Aispuro and Eileen Tesch Ragsdale, Uncle Dan Vandenburg, Aunt Sara Strong, cousin Alvin Besherse, many other family members and special friend Karen Schulze and her son Scott.

He was preceded in death by his wife Sharon Soren, his mother Virginia Tesch & step father William Tesch, father Ray Soren & step mother June Soren, his grandparents, sister Cathy, many Aunts & Uncles, cousins and grandson Joshua Soren.

Rick’s family wants to express “Thank You” to his neighbors, landlord, many friends and family for your support during this difficult time. A special thank you to “Hospice of the Northwest” for creating peaceful last days as Rick made his journey to heaven to be with Jesus and the continued support for our family.

Rick is rejoicing with his loved ones in heaven singing “Praise God, praise God Hallelujah!” A phrase he often used throughout his days, he would say with Joy in his voice, love in his heart and smile on his face.

There will be a celebration of life for Rick with reception to follow on Saturday April 6th, 2024 at 11am, at Sonrise Christian Center Skagit 10217 Collins Road Sedro Woolley, WA 98284.

Rick was a family friend that took me hunting & fishing as a teenager. Never forgot things like that. He was always a nice person to converse with in the following years. He also unloaded many loads of logs at his job at Goodyear Nelson for me when I became a truck driver. Thanks for the memories, Rick.

Dad, I miss you SOOOO much every day!! I still cannot believe you are gone; it does not seem real but knowing you are now with grandma and other family you have missed gives me relief to know you are happy and healthy again, celebrating being in heaven. I miss your smile and laugh, hugs, our conversations, holding your hand on our way into the grocery store or Lorenzos to have lunch and visiting with family and friends together. I am so grateful that we had a lot of time together the last years of your life but somehow it doesn’t seem to be enough. I will forever miss you! I know that I will see you again in Heaven. Hallelujah, Hallelujah Praise God!! I love you SOOOO much, your daughter Danielle xoxo
