Rose Naomi Schmidt, age 91, passed away Monday, February 15, 2010 at the Clayton House in Sedro-Woolley, Washington.

She was born September 12, 1918 in Orleans, South Dakota to Robert and Anna (Larsson) Westerberg.  Rose grew up in Long Prairie, Minnesota, attended school and graduated from high school in 1935 as the valedictorian of her class. She later moved to Oakland, California and worked as the manager of a Safeway Store during WWII.

She was married to Nathan Schmidt on May 23, 1943 in Long Prairie, Minnesota.  They resided in Oakland until moving to Longview, Washington in 1946 and in 1954 she and her family moved to Sedro-Woolley.

Rose was the ultimate wife, mother, and multi-tasker.  She enjoyed quilting, sewing, working with her hands, and most of all caring for her family.  Rose also enjoyed  working on cross word and jigsaw puzzles.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Nathan Schmidt of Sedro-Woolley.  Five children:  Dan Schmidt of Skagit County, Suzanne Rigby (David) of Arlington, VA, Jon Schmidt (Henrietta) of Sedro-Woolley, Kathie Malcomb (Bill) of Newport Beach, CA, and Cyndi Sorestad (Keith) of Sedro-Woolley.  Numerous grandchildren,   great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.  Her sister, Eleanor  Burleson  of Big Spring, TX and a brother, Arnold Westerberg of Long Prairie, MN.   She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Tommy, brothers Lawrence, Nels, and Elver, and sisters, Violet and Audrey.

Funeral Services will be Thursday, February 18, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Valley Baptist Church on John Liner Rd in Sedro-Woolley with Pastor Mike Smith officiating.  Private family interment will follow at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery.  Memorials are suggested to the Valley Baptist Church Building Fund or a charity of your choice.  Arrangements and Services under the care of  Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.

    Our God has chosen one of His children residing in Sedro Woolley, WA to populate heaven, we should rejoice to know He loved Rose; wife, mother and servant of the Lord is now with Him in heaven,.

    Psalm 116:15 “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.” What comfort to know that God chooses wisely and timely.
