Ruby Eunice Doan

Sunday, December 4th, 2022

Ruby Eunice Morgan Doan, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Sunday December 4, 2022 in Ellensburg, Washington.  She was born August 14, 1926 in Byers, Colorado, the daughter of Tom and Kay Morgan.  At a very young age, she and her family moved to Anacortes, WA where she enjoyed playing on the beaches and attended school.  While working at a café in Sedro-Woolley, WA, she met the love of her life, James Louis Doan.  They were married on November 8, 1942.  They celebrated 73 years of marriage before Louie’s passing in 2016.  Ruby and Louie loved to garden, fish, harvesting crabs and clams, camp and travel to visit relatives in other states and the casinos in Reno.  They spent most of their life living in Sedro-Woolley.

She lived in Ellensburg with her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Lynn Brown, for the past 2 ½ years.  She was surrounded by dogs and cats who loved to curl up next to her while she napped on the couch.

Family was extremely important to her, she loved family gatherings and looked forward to every holiday.  She never forgot a birthday, anniversary or to say please or thank you.  She never turned her back on you when you needed love and always stood beside you in support.

Her family remembers her as someone who valued and celebrated family, was always so warm and inviting to everybody and was always willing to teach and show you things (crochet, knitting, cooking, fishing, gardening or quilting/sewing).  She loved flowers which grew plentiful in her yard and always had floral arrangements.

Grandkids remember spending sick days with Ruby and have fond memories of homemade grape juice, garbage soup, soap operas, game shows and her chore schedule.

Ruby’s legacy was that she was a strong woman who didn’t let the problems of the world stand in the way of taking care of her family, and inadvertently she became a great role model to the strong women that she left behind.

Ruby is survived by her daughters, Linda (Lynn) Brown and Gloria Lee; brother, Thomas Tillman Morgan; sister, Mary Worden; seven grandchildren, Janet Arentzen, Melanie (Don) Metcalf, James (Dawn) Schneider, Shelly (Dave) Pallies, Gloria Chaniene Schneider, Randy Schneider and Chelsie (Michael) Hunnicutt;  seven great-grandchildren, Samantha (Marco) Arentzen, Tory Pallies, Kylie Pagel, Samantha Schneider, Dallas Metcalf, Ryan and Kody Farrington; three great-great-grandchildren, Odin and Iris Arentzen, and Sophia Pagel.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Louis Doan; parents, Tom and Kay Morgan; sister, Jean Evans; daughter, Nancy Kay Schneider; grandchildren, Christine Lynn Arentzen, Durin Arentzen and Jerie Renee Schneider.

A Graveside Service will be held Thursday December 15, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Union Cemetery, Sedro-Woolley.  A celebration of life will follow at Cascade Pizza, 852 West State Route 20, Sedro-Woolley.  In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Kittitas Valley Hospice, 309 E Mountain View Ave., Ellensburg, WA (KVH Foundation website – direct donation to Home Health & Hospice.)  Share your memories of Ruby and sign the online guest register.
