Ruth Marie Kaaland

Saturday, September 10th, 2022

Ruth Marie Kaaland, age one hundred, a longtime Sedro-Woolley, Washington resident, passed away September 10, 2022, less than one month shy of her 101st birthday.  She was born October 7, 1921, on a farm outside of Alma, Nebraska, the seventh and youngest child of William and Grace (McKenzie) LeValley.  Due to challenging times, Ruth was lovingly adopted, at the age of two, by her cousin, Ruth and her husband, William Craig.  She was schooled at Woodruff, until the age of 14, then moving to Longmont, Colorado.  Through the years, the small family migrated to Washington State seeking work.  Ruth graduated from Pateros High School in Eastern Washington.  She then completed Business College and became an accountant for S. A. Moffett and Co.  Ruth eventually met Kenneth Kaaland.  They married in 1941, on Christmas Eve and settled in Skagit County.  Together they raised two boys and a girl, while developing a successful dairy farm.

Through the years, Ruth was a caregiver to many.  She always put family first.  When not helping to run the farm or feed the numerous workers, Ruth loved to garden, china paint and create beautiful china painted dolls.  She even sewed their intricate clothing.

God, her family, and music were especially important in her everyday life.  Ruth gave of herself unselfishly to all she knew and cared for.  In her one hundred plus years, she lived life to the fullest and witnessed a multitude of historical events.  The family loved to sit and listen to intriguing life stories.  No one can ever take the place of our loving, caring and giving matriarch.  She is and will always be the heart and soul of the Kaaland clan.

Ruth is survived by her son, Ronald and his wife, Chris Kaaland; daughter, Patricia Robinson; son, Donald and his wife, Wonona Kaaland; seven grandchildren, Richard Kaaland, Teri and her husband, Jeff Blanton, LeAnne Robinson and her husband, Vance Jorgenson, Carmen Robinson and her husband, Craig Taylor, Krista Robinson and her husband, John Hayes, Andrea Kaaland and Stephanie Kaaland; nine great grandchildren, Jonah Trople, Danielle and Chad Kaaland, Kaalen and Alison Blanton, Hope and Tess Wimer, Jacob and Lily Winn; three great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Kaaland in 2004; son in law, Larry Robinson in 2003; granddaughter, Rachel Kaaland in 1971; both sets of parents; three sisters and three brothers; numerous other family members.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00, Saturday, September 17, 2022, at Union Cemetery, Sedro-Woolley, Pastor Walter Rice presiding.  Please join the family in a reception at Bethlehem Lutheran Church following the Graveside Service.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Memory of Ruth Kaaland to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, PO Box 625, Sedro-Woolley, WA, 98284.  Share your memories of Ruth and sign the online guest register.
