SANDRA JEANNE HOWATSON, 64, a resident of Sedro-Woolley, passed away on Friday January 31, 2003, surrounded by her loving family at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon following a courageous battle with lung & brain cancer.
Sandra was born on December 7, 1938 in Seattle, WA, the daughter of Lemuel C. & Evelyn M. Thomas Smith. She was raised in Seattle and attended Lincoln High School. She worked as a binder for Craftsman Press in Seattle for a few years. On November 2, 1965 she was united in marriage to Paul Howatson in Seattle and they made their home there and in other areas of King County. She enjoyed being a wife & mother and after her children grew older she worked as a Real Estate Agent in Island County for several years. In 1985 the family moved to Camano Island and Sandra worked as a sales clerk at the Sprouse Rietz Department store in Stanwood. In 2001 they moved to Sedro-Woolley. Sandra enjoyed horses, specifically Arabian horses. She bred, raised and showed her horses around Washington State for several years and was active in local 4-H groups. But she especially enjoyed her family and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Paul, at the family home in Sedro-Woolley. Her 2 sons, William of Sedro-Woolley, and James and his wife Melody of Everett, WA. Her daughter, Sheryl Kres and her husband Alan of Camano Island, WA. 1 sister, Judith McEwen of Marysville, WA. 1 brother, Chet Smith and his wife Sydney of Woodinville, WA. Her beloved grandchildren, Will Howatson, Tyler Kres, Shenell Kres and Garrett Howatson, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Mike Smith.
At her request there will be no funeral services. The family suggests memorials be made in Sandra’s name to the Flynn Cancer Center at Providence Hospital in Everett or to Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon.
Cremation arrangements under direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
Share thoughts and memories of Sandra and sign the online guest register at www.lemleychapel.com
