Monday, November 14th, 2011

Sheila Rose Bailey, age 72, passed away Monday, November 14, 2011 at Peace Health St. Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham, Washington. She was born November 2, 1939 in Polson, Montana to Edward and Nona (Wolfinger) DuPuis and was adopted and raised by her paternal grandparents, Zola and Archie Moss.

Sheila grew up and attended school in Polson and Kerr Dam Montana and was married to her high school sweetheart Arthur Bailey Jr. on December 26, 1959 in Polson, MT, celebrating 46 years together until his passing in July of 2005.

She and Art left Montana after Art was discharged from the Marine Corps settling in Southern California for a number of years where they started their family. Soon after the birth of their second child, they moved and found their home in the Skagit Valley. In November of 1971, Sheila began her career with Skagit State Bank as a bank auditor retiring in December of 1999.

She and Art were very active; they swam with the dolphins, went parasailing, snorkeled in the ocean, went to flea markets and became familiar with the culture of each area on their numerous trips to Florida, Hawaii, and Arizona as they searched for their ideal retirement lifestyle. Upon retiring, they enjoyed snow-birding in Arizona and taking care of their grandchildren and watching them grow.

She is survived by her son, Ken Bailey and his wife Laurie of Spokane, her daughter, Debby Minne and her husband Rick of Sedro-Woolley, and her son, Ted Holcombe and his wife Barbara of Lawton, OK. Four grandchildren, Aubrey Maynard and her husband Matt, Holly Bailey, Seth Askvig and his wife Jocie, and Bailey Minne. Three great-grandchildren, Avery Askvig, Kinley Askvig, and Mason Maynard.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held Thursday, November 17, 2011 at 7:00PM at Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley with Jason Kaopua and Ken Bailey officiating. A Spring-time Inurnment will be scheduled at the Lakeview Cemetery in Polson, MT. Arrangements and Services under the care of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.

I know I am late but I was slow is learning about this. I too went to Polson High with both Art & Sheila and knew Art’s family best as I lived near the Valley View area. I would guess about 1964 Art & Sheila and my wife, Carol, and I moved from Southern California to Polson, Montana, together. We rented a U-haul truck, put the belongings of both families in the truck and took turns driving it to Polson. Unfortunately after a short time in Polson we kind of lost track of one another. However, I have lots of memories of both Art & Sheila and it was great to see her again at our 50 year high school reunion. We are praying for your family and wonder if any of the children remember the move back to Polson? Again our prayers are with you.

We send our deepest condolences to you all. My mom Barbara Louise, regaled us with stories of your mom and hers exploits when they were young through out our lifetime. Although she will be greatly missed, she is now where she has wanted to be, with Arthur.

    All our love and prayers,
    Marla, Barbara and Wayne Couture

We were some of the first friends of Art and Sheila when they moved to Burlington. We shared many family experiences in those early years. I particularly remember going by snowmobile to cut Christmas trees. Sheila waded through the deep snow until she found the perfect one! She was a good friend and a wonderful mother.
We are saddened by her passing, but know that she is with your dad, taking care of everything, just like she always did.
    With love,
    Rich and JoAnn Welling

I am so sad about Sheila’s passing at such a young age. She and I were best friends from grade school on, I have many funny, happy memories of her. I used to spend nights with her at Kerr Dam and her grandma always made us have a bedtime snack of Ovaltine and graham crackers, she was trying to get a little fat on Sheila. For Christmas one year, we both received Tony Dolls, she named hers Beth Ann and I named mine Sheila and mine still is in my closet. In the seventh grade, we decided to be a little sexy, took a camera and a towel, went up a hill by the dam and each took pictures of the each other with only a towel on. They were passed around the 7th grade, what a spash they made!!!! I also lived in California when she and Art were there, when Ken and Debbie were born. She was very ambitious, a great wife and a wonderful mother. She loved Art from the time they were in High School and I know their reunion was fantastic. She leaves many happy memories for her family. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

I was very saddened to hear of Aunt Sheila’s passing, as was my mother Janet. I just wanted to extend my condolences to Ken and Debbie and their families. I am hoping that I will be able to see you whenever you get over Polson way.

Sheila, you will be missed by your family and friends. Your smile, laughter, zest for adventure and enjoying life were the wonderful ingredients that made you such a memorable friend. Our days at Polson H.S. provide fond memories and our reunions as parents and grandparents will live on. My condolences and blessings to your family. Rest in peace, dear Sheila.

We both knew Sheila & her husband, Art, & were very lucky to have had them both as our friends years ago, we have fond memories going to motorcycle races with them, we enjoyed their company very much, they were both just really good people, we will miss Sheila & I happened to see her when Art was so sick & she shared with me her grief, I’m glad she was so strong, we cared about her alot, may she rest in peace now with Art/

I grew up with both Sheila and Art. When they lived in California we shared the birth of our children, Ken and Amber. I remember when they lived in Burbank before Debbie was born. I was able to visit with Shiela several
years ago in Polson. It was great to see Ken and Debbie all grown up.
I will always remember Shiela down at the Dam and all the fun we had growing up in Polson,
