Shirley Smith

Wednesday, July 26th, 2023

Shirley Mae Smith, 95, passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at Birchview Memory Care in Sedro-Woolley following a long illness.  Shirley was born in San Pedro, California, and lived there until she married her life partner, Gene Smith.  His job with Shell Oil Co. led them to relocating to Anacortes where they raised their four children.

Gene preceded her in death in 1985.

Shirley filled her time with gardening, Chinese brush painting, and trips to China to immerse herself in Chinese history and culture.  She enjoyed her children and grandchildren and will be missed by all.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Birchview Memory Care staff for their loving care of their mother.  Her family knew she was safe there, and happy.  There will be no service per her request. Share your memories of Shirley and sign the online guest register.

    Karen and family,
thank you so much for allowing us to be a part of your mom and family’s lives for a while. She was a joy and will be missed.
She has her wings and you have your memories.

Shirley and Gene were good friends when Dewey brought me as a bride to Anacortes! Shirley and I talked a lot at that time. She helped me know how
to cook! She shared her French silk chocolate pie recipe with me, but I could never make it right! It was she who pointed out to us how wonderful a large round
marble coffee table was. We got one when we bought our furniture! Still have it and I often think of her when I am in the room with that table. Her wonderful pictures from her lessons in China will always be in my mind. She had a hard life till she married Gene. Glad the family have taken such good care of her.
All of our sympathy for her loss.

I was Shirley’s Deacon from the Presbyterian church in Anacortes for a number of years. I loved her wonderful cards. Such a talent.
