TED R. OWENS, a Concrete community resident passed away on Sunday June 9, 2002 at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon at the age of 80 years.<br>He was born on December 25, 1921 in Culley, Dickenson County, Virginia, the son of Lina and Ted Owen, Sr. As a young man Ted worked in the coal mines in Virginia. In 1949 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served his country for 32 years, retiring in 1981. During those years he earned numerous awards for outstanding achievements.<br>He was united in marriage to Karin Hechinger in Seattle, WA in 1956. They came to Skagit County in 1961 and settled in Birdsview in 1964.<br>Following his retirement, Ted enjoyed hunting, trips to the mountains, raising a vegetable garden and restoring ‘old Chevy Luv pickups’. His favorite pastime was spending time with family and visiting with neighbors.<br>Ted is survived by his wife of 46 years, Karin at the family home Concrete. 1 daughter and son-in-law, Tammy & Ray Ensley and 3 sons and daughters-in-law, Gary & Sheri Owens, George & Fritzi Donaldson and Rick & Lori Owens all of Birdsview. 2 brothers, Russell Owens and wife Joanna and Tivis Owens and 2 sisters, Connie Phipps and husband Kenneth and Betty McClanahan and husband Gerald all living in Virginia. 7 grandchildren, Nicki Godfrey Jeff, Tracie Reuwsaat Doug, Bryan Ensley, Candan Owens, Owen Ensley, Courtney & Olivia Owens. 3 great-grandchildren, Cody Donaldson, Emmarae and Lucus Reuwsaat and numerous nieces and nephews and special friends.<br>He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted & Lina Owens, 1 son, Bob Donaldson and 1 brother Cecil Owens.<br>Dad will always be remembered as being there to lend a helping hand without being asked and never expecting anything in return.<br>The family suggests memorials be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Sedro-Woolley.<br>Graveside services will be held Thursday June 13, 2002 at 3:00 PM at the Hamilton Cemetery.
