Vicki Lynn VanDyke, 56 a long time resident of Sedro-Woolley, passed away on September 16, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bellingham.

Vicki was born on January 2, 1957 in Burlington, Washington to John A. VanDyke Jr. and Caroline Bozell VanDyke.  She was raised in and around Sedro-Woolley.

Her early years she worked as a bar manager for Jerry Andal.  She moved to Nebraska where she trained to be a beautician, then worked for the Sedro-Woolley School District a number of years, an also was a house painter at one point in her life. Her favorite job was as a flagger and then a TCS on the state highways, the job she dearly loved.

She was really good at ceramics and made beautiful things for her friends and family.  She had a special talent for painting them. She was a second mother to all of her nieces and nephews, as well as many of their friends.  They could pretty much talk to her about anything.  She was a good and loyal friend and family member.

She dearly loved her animals, Muffie, Griffey, Bubbles, Angel, Sir Kitty, Mechee and Pretty Bird, she talked to them and treated them like people.  You could tell they understood what she said.

Vicki is survived by her mother, Caroline Ensley; sister, Bobbi Jo Gustafson (Thom), and their children, Jeremy, Angela, Tosha, Jesse, Nick, Michael and Greg; sister, Annie Nersten (BJ) and their children, Cortney, Carolyn, Venessa, and Randal; brother, Garry Ensley and his wife Cari and their sons, Joshua & Jacob; sisters, Tracy McLean and Lisa King and brother, John VanDyke all of North Carolina. Niece, Wezlynn, Davis (Eddie) and nephew, Jonathan VanDyke. She’s also survived by her cousins, Debbie Kosbab, Janet Aldridge (Bucum), Robert Mercer (Gloria), and Charles Mercer and numerous great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, John A. VanDyke, Three brothers; Ted, Steven & Jay and a cousin, Bryon Mercer.

Memorial Fellowship will be held on September 28, 2013, 1:00 pm, at the Sedro Woolley Eagles Club. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sedro Woolley Eagles Ladies Auxiliary Scholarship Fund.  Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.

When I saw this post, my heart stopped as I looked at the sweet face. I started to read this and realized that I used to play with Vicki and the rest of thew kids. I am the daughter of Ralph and Jo Anne Bell and we left the area when we moved back to North Carolina in 1970. Andy was a hunting buddy of my dads. I remember once we colored rocks with crayons. Vicki was such a nice person. She made an impression that I remeber today. Is that not a testimony. judy.bell@macon.k12.nc.us
